About this tour

The Ala-Köl Lake trek is the most rewarding short trek in Kyrgyzstan’s Tian Shan mountains — four days that pack glacial valleys, natural hot springs, and one of Central Asia’s most photographed lakes into a single unforgettable route. Starting from Karakol on the eastern shore of Lake Issyk-Köl, you hike up the wild Arashan and Karakol valleys to reach the shore of Ala-Köl (3,532 m), where the water glows from deep sapphire to milky turquoise as the light shifts across the peaks.

The high point — literally — is the Ala-Köl Pass at 3,900 m, a steep but non-technical climb that opens onto a vast panorama of the Terskey Ala-Too range. This is a genuine mountain trek with long days and big ascents, led by a local guide who grew up in these valleys and knows the weather, the camps, and the mountain stories. No climbing skills are required, just solid fitness and a taste for adventure.

You’ll sleep in a mix of trekkers’ guesthouses, a hot-spring lodge, and a tented camp beside the lake, with hearty meals cooked fresh on the trail each day. It’s the ideal introduction to trekking in Kyrgyzstan for anyone who wants world-class alpine scenery without committing to a two-week expedition.
